The Verdehr Trio

The internationally acclaimed Verdehr Trio has performed throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. The Trio is noted for its efforts to enrich the violin, clarinet, piano trio literature, and has contributed some fifty rediscovered 18th and 19th century works and newly commissioned 20th century works to the already familiar mixed trio repertoire.

In addition to the three contemporary composers represented in this recording, composers who have been commissioned by the Verdehr Trio include Richard Rodney Bennett, William Bolcom, Paul Chihara, Thomas Christian David, John Deak, Peter Dickinson, Lukas Foss, Ida Gotkovsky, Alan Hovhaness, Karel Husa, Thea Musgrave, Thomas Pasatieri, Ned Rorem, Gunther Schuller, and Joseph Schwantner.

The Trio has been featured on ABC Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong Radio, Südwest Rundfunk in Germany, and Austrian National Radio, and has twice performed and presented master classes in the major cities of the People's Republic of China. The Trio is in residence at Michigan State University where violinist Walter Verdehr and clarinetist Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr are on the faculty. Pianist Gary Kirkpatrick is a member of the faculty of the William Paterson College in New Jersey.
