THE NEW YORK BASSOON QUARTET
Bernadette Zirkuli, artistic director, is an associate member of the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, and American Ballet Theatre orchestras. She has recorded for Leonarda, Nonesuch, R.C.A. and Columbia, as well as for film scores and commercials. Zirkuli taught at the Juilliard Pre-College until 1982.
Jane Taylor has performed with scores of organizations, among them the Symphony of the Air, American Symphony, Little Orchestra Society, American Opera, the New York City Opera and Ballet companies, and the Marlboro Festival. She is a founding member of the Dorian Wind Quintet.
Lauren Goldstein is principal bassoonist with the Joffrey Ballet, Opera Orchestra of New York, Paul Taylor Dance Company, and the Riverside Symphony. Her chamber music groups consist of Parnassus, ISCM Chamber Players, and the New Music Consort.
Julie Feves has performed extensively with groups such as Orpheus, the American Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonia, Aspen Festival Chamber Orchestra, Speculum Musicae, and the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. She has recorded for Desto and Columbia Records.
CONTRABASSOON SOLOIST, CONTRABASSOON CONCERTO
Gregg Henegar is a member of the Boston
Symphony Orchestra. The Houston Symphony commissioned Erb's Contrabassoon
Concerto especially for Henegar when he was a member of that orchestra.
In this technically demanding concerto, Henegar has extended the harmonic range
of the contrabassoon far beyond its traditional limits.
Internationally renowned American conductor
Harold Farberman has conducted many of the world's leading
orchestras. An early champion of the music of Charles Ives, he received the
Ives Award from the Academy of Arts and Letters. Farberman conducted the Royal
Philharmonic in a release that won Belgium's highest recording award. He is
currently recording all the Mahler and Michael Haydn Symphonies with the London
Symphony and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta respectively.
